ABOUT COL. STEVE HEALEY

I am a lifelong Louisvillian with over 26 years of policing experience. I recently retired as the Deputy Chief of Operations with LMPD, having served both LPD and LMPD for more than 24 years. I currently serve as the Chief of the Pewee Valley Police Department. As a proud father of 2 and grandfather of 9, family is at the heart of why I’m running. My wife Melissa and I love this community, and care deeply about ensuring the safety of all families across Jefferson County. I’m a graduate of Seneca High School, and honored to be a member of my alma mater’s Hall of Fame.

I have strong ties to the community and firmly believe that the true measure of success for any law enforcement agency lies in the strength of its relationships with the people it serves. I am a founding member of The Bishops Table, where community members and government officials meet weekly for open discussions about quality-of-life issues that impact residents' daily lives.

I’ve worked closely with members of Metro Council to address concerns such as Louisville's Street Racing Ordinance and amnesty options for tow and storage fees. As Patrol Bureau Commander, I brought back Division-level IMPACT Platoons after seeing their positive effect during my time as the 2nd Division Major. I was also tasked with assembling the Non-Fatal Shooting Squad to address the rise in violent gun crime in our communities.

I have extensive experience investigating high-level narcotics cases and have supervised multiple investigative units throughout my career. I believe that law enforcement, when rooted in positive community engagement, is one of the noblest professions—and that’s why I’m running for Jefferson County Sheriff.

Healey’s PLAN

Public Safety

To work collectively and collaboratively with local, state and federal agencies for a safer Louisville. I also pledge to work with the community, getting feedback from the residents on what their needs and concerns are for improved quality of life issues.

Community Oriented Policing

Be present and accessible within communities and work collaboratively with the citizens in those communities. Work to ensure community events are safe for all that attend. Establish working partnerships within the downtown business and entertainment districts, as well as all Metro Council members and their districts.

Courthouse Security

Providing a safe environment for all those that utilize and work in our courthouses.

WORK TOGETHER

Work with citizens and government agencies so that individuals that may fall into the civil, eviction and tax categories are treated fairly and with dignity.
